User Guide: Creating Slide Content Items
Overview
Slide content items are dynamic banner/video content that can be displayed on home page.
Getting Started
When creating a new slide, you'll encounter a form with various fields. The fields that appear depend on the Banner Type you select, as different banner types require different information.
Field Reference
1. Banner Type ⭐ (Required)
Field Type: Dropdown Selection
Options:
- Banner - Static image banner with text and button
- Video - Video content with minimal text overlay
- Video+Banner - Combination of video and banner elements
Important: This selection determines which other fields you will need to fill out in the form.
2. Background ⭐ (Required)
Field Type: Image Upload
Purpose: The main background image or video thumbnail for your slide
Tips:
- Use high-quality images (recommended: 1350 x 764 px)
- Ensure good contrast if text will overlay the image
- Consider mobile viewing when choosing images
3. Heading ⭐ (Required for Banner and Video+Banner)
Field Type: Text Input
Visibility: Hidden when Banner Type = "Video"
Example: "Premium Style French Door"
Tips:
- Keep headings concise and impactful
- Consider your target audience
- Use title case for better readability
4. Subheading (Optional for Banner and Video+Banner)
Field Type: Text Input
Visibility: Hidden when Banner Type = "Video"
Purpose: Additional descriptive text to support your heading
Tips:
- Use to provide context or emphasis
- Keep shorter than the main heading
- Consider leaving blank if heading is self-explanatory
5. Description ⭐ (Required for Banner and Video+Banner)
Field Type: Text Area
Visibility: Hidden when Banner Type = "Video"
Purpose: Detailed description of your content/offer
Tips:
- Be clear and compelling
- Focus on benefits to the user
- Keep it scannable (use short sentences)
6. Button Name ⭐ (Required for Banner and Video+Banner)
Field Type: Dropdown Selection
Visibility: Hidden when Banner Type = "Video"
Options:
- Open - General action button
- Watch - For video or demo content
- Learn - For educational content
- INVISIBLE BUTTON - Hide the button
7. URL ⭐ (Required)
Field Type: Text Input
Purpose: Where users go when they click the slide
Example: /launchexperience?id=678
Tips:
- Test your URLs before publishing
- Use relative URLs when linking within Learn Whirlpool
- Consider tracking parameters for analytics
8. Desktop URL ⭐ (Required for Video+Banner)
Field Type: Text Input
Visibility: Only shown when Banner Type = "Video+Banner"
Purpose: Specific URL for desktop users
Use Case: When you need different experiences for desktop vs mobile
9. Mobile URL (Optional for Video only)
Field Type: Text Input
Visibility: Only shown when Banner Type = "Video"
Purpose: Alternative URL specifically for mobile users
Tips:
- Use when you have mobile-optimized content
- Leave blank to use the main URL for all devices
10. Time to Next Slide (Optional)
Field Type: Text Input
Purpose: How long this slide displays before advancing
Default: 5 seconds if left empty
Format: Number (in seconds)
Tips:
- Consider reading time for text content
- Video slides may need longer duration
- Test with actual users for optimal timing
Targeting and Visibility Options
11. Show to Tag (Optional)
Field Type: Tag Selector
Purpose: Only show this slide to users with a specific tag
Use Cases:
- Certain types of Users
12. Hide from Tag (Optional)
Field Type: Tag Selector
Purpose: Hide this slide from users with a specific tag
Use Cases:
- Exclude certain user groups
13. Sites to Hide From (Optional)
Field Type: Multi-Select
Purpose: Exclude this slide from specific partner sites
Use Cases:
- Content inappropriate for certain partners
- Partner-specific restrictions
